Just Good Trade is currently open on the Square from 10am until 6pm on Tuesdays – Saturdays and during special events. That means that on Mondays I generally wear sweat pants and play with the kids. Today was no exception. Atticus took this less-than-becoming-picture of me this morning and I share it to show my seriousness about relaxed Mondays.
After rest time today I started to get around though because tonight I was glad to get to speak with a fun group of ladies about Fair Trade. Sebastian came in as I was sprucing up and asked what I was doing. (Seeing me putting on makeup on a Monday is something to question.) I’m not really sure how I described tonight’s gathering, but Sebbie said that he didn’t think it sounded like much fun and wondered if he should come along. He apparently sees himself as quite a ham. I assured him that the ladies like getting together and he wanted to know why. I responded with some words about good friends and food and then added that they must like to learn things too. With all seriousness, Sebastian wondered if I was going to do math with the group tonight. What a sweet Kindergartner.
I suppose we did do some math… I talked about how goods are priced, how many producers benefit from Fair Trade (over 5 million in 2009 according to the Fair Trade Resource Network) and how much more we can do together. There was math. We did not do any fun math games though like Sebbie has grown to love in Mrs. B’s classroom.
It is an honor to be asked to speak with a group about Fair Trade. I know that their time is limited with one another and they are kind to invite me in… I hope there are more Mondays with makeup. !
